clear, because the fact is, the body’s metabolism carefully controls
body weight and body mass (ratio of fat as compared to overall total
weight), so no magic pill can just make fat melt away overnight.
However, there are some natural alternatives that show real promise to
assist with weight-loss goals in addition to a healthy diet and regular
The first natural alternative we’ll discuss is Caralluma Fimbriata, a
succulent plant in the family Apocynaceae. It has been eaten in rural
India for centuries, raw, as a vegetable with spices, or preserved in
chutneys and pickles, and is often found in the wild. Early studies on
rats showed weight loss with no adverse side effects, while in a more
recent study in which 25 people received Caralluma and 25 received a
placebo, it was found that there was a decrease in weight and girth in
the Caralluma group with no significant adverse side effects. It is
believed that pregnane glycosides play a part in why Caralluma
Fimbriata is able to prevent fat accumulation by blocking citrate
lyase. The plant also appears to have an appetite suppressant effect
which could contribute to a reduction in caloric intake, and that also
can result in weight loss.
In addition to Caralluma, there is another plant that has shown to be
of potential benefit in decreasing weight, and that would be the
African Mango, also known as Irvingia Gabonensis. This plant bears
edible mango-like fruits which are especially valued for their fat- and
protein-rich nuts. In the journal Lipids Health, a study was reported
about the effects of Irvingia on body weight and blood lipids. This was
carried out as a double blind randomized study involving 40 subjects.
At the end, the mean body weight of the Irvingia group was decreased by
up to 7.5% over that of the placebo. The difference observed between
the groups was significant. The obese patients under Irvingia also had
a significant decrease of total cholesterol, LDL-cholesterol,
triglycerides, and an increase of HDL-cholesterol.
Lastly, Red Raspberry Ketones present an excellent adjunct to a weight
loss program. Raspberry Ketones are one of many compounds in
raspberries, which contain a lot of substances that are healthy
including anthocyanins, vitamin C and beta carotene. Raspberry Ketones
look chemically similar to synephrine and capsicum that have been used
in many weight loss supplements over the years, and in two separate
animal studies in 2005 and 2010, researchers noted that Raspberry
Ketones appeared to result in a reduction in body weight and fat.
So, while there is still no "miracle pill" that will cause you to lose
weight overnight, there are indications that some natural alternatives
may help you to achieve your goals. If you are trying to lose weight,
you need to do your research, be informed about what you are taking and
what you are trying to accomplish, and make sure you are following a
healthy diet and exercise regimen. When you follow through with all of
